Underneath it's luxurious inky finish, this historic re-creation of the original 1954 Custom features a carved mahogany top, a solid mahogany back, one-piece mahogany neck with long neck tenon, an early '50s rounded neck profile, 24-3/4" scale length, and a 1-11/16" nut width. It also has multi-ply white/black binding on the body and headstock, with white single-ply binding on the fingerboard. Its finer appointments include gold hardware, an ebony fingerboard, large pearl block inlays, pearl headstock inlay, and kidney bean tuners. The original circuitry is preserved with the use of CTS pots and bumble bee capacitors in the signal path and the unique pickup array of a vintage P-90 pickup at the bridge and a rare Alnico V pickup at the neck.

The Les Paul Custom is an elegantly designed guitar which features a carved figured maple top, multi-ply binding, and gold hardware. The body is made of mahogany which has a carved 5A quilted piece of maple glued on to it. You'll notice the grain on the body that really stands out on the translucent finishes. There's a multi-ply white and black binding surrounding the top and back of the body. It's available in Triburst, Antique Natural, and Firemist finishes. The bridge used is an ABR-1 with a stopbar tailpiece.

One of the most significant changes to the Les Paul model was the addition of the new Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece in 1956, replacing the trapeze and wraparound tailpieces that had adorned earlier versions. The Goldtop models proved instantly popular with a growing legion of electric blues players, most notably B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Tiger Haynes, and today is one of the most revered and copied pieces of guitar hardware ever developed.

At the direction of legendary Gibson President Ted McCarty, Gibson engineer Seth Lover began working on a tone circuit with hum-cancelling capabilities sometime in 1954, applying for a U.S. design patent – hence the name “Patent Applied For,” or “PAF” – on June 22, 1955. By early 1957, the standard double-coil version of the humbucker pickup had begun to appear on Gibson ES-175s and ES-350Ts, and eventually on the Les Paul Model Goldtops of the same year.

Looking to increase the stagnant sales numbers of the Les Paul Standard models of the mid- to late-1950s, Gibson president Ted McCarty and his reputable team of luthiers and engineers set out to redesign the company’s solid body guitar. The result was the introduction in 1961 of what is known today as the Gibson SG line. The first use of the name “SG” actually surfaced on a Gibson guitar in late 1959 with the introduction of the SG Special – a double cutaway model with rounded horns that had previously been listed as a Les Paul since 1955. In early 1961, however, the Les Paul models would undergo a radical change in design in an effort to improve their popularity, and Gibson’s standing as a quality builder of electric solid body guitars. The Trini Lopez Guitar from the Gibson Custom is a variation on the ES-335 theme with a thin line body, 16" wide. This 24¾" scale guitar is 1¾" deep, and also features a double rounded cutaway, and a maple top, back, and rim with cream binding and bound diamond-shaped sound holes. The Gibson Trini Lopez Guitar sports a mahogany neck with diamond-shaped pearloid inlays on the 22 fret, rosewood fingerboard. The neck joins the body at the 19th fret. Two '57 Classic humbucking pickups, CTS pots, bumblebee capacitors, and a Tune-O-Matic bridge add to the Gibson look and sound. The Trini Lopez Electric Guitar also features 6-on-a-side tuning keys on an angled headstock.
