Identisk med 1959 Les paul. 50 tals hals og nydeleg topp. The End of an Era, the Beginning of a Legend At the start of 1960, the Les Paul retained the same specs as its predecessor from 1959, although it did receive the official “Les Paul Standard” designation in place of the former “Les Paul Model” (a name that its headstock nonetheless still retained). Among these details were the full, rounded neck profile, top-hat control knobs, and Heritage Cherry Sunburst or Heritage Dark Sunburst finish, and these are the very characteristics with which the Custom Shop has imbued Version 1 of the 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard, which might be confused for a 1959 Les Paul Model if not for the 1960 serial number stamped into the back of the guitar’s headstock at the dawn of this new decade, and the R0 serial number of this 50th Anniversary model.

Underneath it's luxurious inky finish, this historic re-creation of the original 1954 Custom features a carved mahogany top, a solid mahogany back, one-piece mahogany neck with long neck tenon, an early '50s rounded neck profile, 24-3/4" scale length, and a 1-11/16" nut width. It also has multi-ply white/black binding on the body and headstock, with white single-ply binding on the fingerboard. Its finer appointments include gold hardware, an ebony fingerboard, large pearl block inlays, pearl headstock inlay, and kidney bean tuners. The original circuitry is preserved with the use of CTS pots and bumble bee capacitors in the signal path and the unique pickup array of a vintage P-90 pickup at the bridge and a rare Alnico V pickup at the neck.

The body is made of mahogany which has a carved 5A quilted piece of maple glued on to it. You'll notice the grain on the body that really stands out on the translucent finishes. There's a multi-ply white and black binding surrounding the top and back of the body. It's available in Triburst, Antique Natural, and Firemist finishes. The bridge used is an ABR-1 with a stopbar tailpiece.

The Goldtop models proved instantly popular with a growing legion of electric blues players, most notably B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Tiger Haynes, and today is one of the most revered and copied pieces of guitar hardware ever developed.

At the direction of legendary Gibson President Ted McCarty, Gibson engineer Seth Lover began working on a tone circuit with hum-cancelling capabilities sometime in 1954, applying for a U.S. design patent – hence the name “Patent Applied For,” or “PAF” – on June 22, 1955. By early 1957, the standard double-coil version of the humbucker pickup had begun to appear on Gibson ES-175s and ES-350Ts, and eventually on the Les Paul Model Goldtops of the same year.

Gibson’s Les Paul Standard model from 1959 is the most highly acclaimed, widely recognized solid body electric guitar in the entire world, coveted by both players and collectors as the ultimate example of playability, attractiveness and tone among all six-stringed instruments. In an industry filled with imitations and replicas, the iconic 1959 Les Paul Standard simply has no equal. Named after Lester William Polsfuss, aka Les Paul – legendary American jazz guitarist, and true pioneer in the development of recorded music – the Les Paul model guitar became the “Standard” in July 1958 after company president Ted McCarty and his staff decided to add the new designation and forego the guitar’s traditional Goldtop finish for a new, brighter finish dubbed Cherry Sunburst, which allowed the natural beauty of the Les Paul Standard’s maple top to be showcased. The company was hoping the changes would improve its sales of solid body electric guitars, which had been declining since 1953 when the Gibson shipped 2,245 Les Paul Model guitars.

Looking to increase the stagnant sales numbers of the Les Paul Standard models of the mid- to late-1950s, Gibson president Ted McCarty and his reputable team of luthiers and engineers set out to redesign the company’s solid body guitar. The result was the introduction in 1961 of what is known today as the Gibson SG line. The first use of the name “SG” actually surfaced on a Gibson guitar in late 1959 with the introduction of the SG Special – a double cutaway model with rounded horns that had previously been listed as a Les Paul since 1955. In early 1961, however, the Les Paul models would undergo a radical change in design in an effort to improve their popularity, and Gibson’s standing as a quality builder of electric solid body guitars. Fortunately, the redesigns would make a significant impact on Gibson’s market share, albeit slowly at first. On average, about 2,120 SGs shipped per year from 1961 to 1970, with the numbers continuing to increase well into the 1970s. This trend eventually made the SG Gibson’s most popular model – a distinction that still holds true today. From 1961 to 1963, the model was still known as the “redesigned” Les Paul Standard, although its namesake did not fully approve of the model’s new look. This would eventually lead to the removal of Les Paul’s name in 1963, in favor of a new name, the SG Standard.

The Gibson Trini Lopez Guitar sports a mahogany neck with diamond-shaped pearloid inlays on the 22 fret, rosewood fingerboard. The neck joins the body at the 19th fret. Two '57 Classic humbucking pickups, CTS pots, bumblebee capacitors, and a Tune-O-Matic bridge add to the Gibson look and sound.
